Cyclones Are One of the Favorites for Hyder

Lyndon B. Johnson (TX) High School linebacker Kerry Hyder has a unique history with Iowa State Head Coach Gene Chizik.

"I met him my freshman year at the University of Texas camp," he said. "It was fun because I got to work with him there."

Now a few years later, Hyder is being recruited to play for Chizik at Iowa State. "I got to talk to him and he told me that he thought I was a good athlete and that he would like to see me in a Cyclone uniform."

The 6-foot-3, 246-pound Hyder is from Austin, Texas and is being recruited as a defensive end. He currently holds offers from Cincinnati, Iowa State, Minnesota, Texas Tech, New Mexico, Utah, Toledo, and UTEP. However, two schools have clearly jumped to the front for him. "My leaders are Iowa State and Texas Tech," he said. "They have been in contact with me the most and both just seem to show the most interest in me."

Hyder, who had 153 tackles and 5 sacks last year, is currently trying to set up some visits. "I'm trying to set up a visit with Texas Tech before the summer ends and I think Iowa State will be my first visit in the fall," he said. "I want to make a decision in the fall by about the first two or three games."
