The 6-foot-6, 210-pound wing from Gulf Coast Community College had just got off the phone with his future head coach. "I just got off the phone with (Iowa State) Coach McDermott and he told me that he's ready to meet me and he told me that everyone there is excited that I am coming in," said Gilstrap. "I am really looking forward to meeting him and all the coaches. They all seem like really good guys."
He also feels that it will be an eventful weekend. "I know I'll get to play Saturday because they are having a scrimmage (1pm at Hilton Coliseum) and I can't wait for that because I really want to play with my future teammates," he said. "Then I get to go to the football game on Saturday night and that should be great also."
Marquis also hopes to get to know his future teammates well over weekend. "I'm just going to be myself and bond with them," said Gilstrap. "I feel I'm easy to get along with so I think things will go great. If they are anything like my Gulf Coast teammates then I'll be alright because I got some great teammates down here."
So what can fans expect to see from Marquis during the scrimmage? "I feel they'll see a versatile player who can do a variety of things," he said. "I used to just be a three-point shooter but I've worked with (former Cyclone) Kantrail Horton the last few years on my ballhandling and now I can shoot off the dribble and do a lot more."
