James got to talk with Iowa State Head Coach Gene Chizik this past week after already having done some research on Chizik. "He's a good coach who I could definitely play for," he said. "I read up on him and really liked everything I read about him."
White says that Chizik laid out to him what could happen if he committed to Ames and worked really hard. "He told me that if I come up to Iowa State that I'm going to get playing time and that in the future I could be a feature back," he said. "He feels I can be an impact freshman and that I would love it in Iowa. He really wants me to come help turn the program around."
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound running back has offers from Colorado, Iowa State, Utah, and Minnesota and feels that he can bring a lot to the table. "I feel I'm both a speed back and a power back," he said. "Because I'm smaller a lot of people don't realize how powerful I can be. If I get in the open field then I'm almost always going to break it long."
James knows exactly what he wants to see when he arrives in Ames. "The first thing is getting in and seeing all the coaches," said White. "Then I want to check out the game atmosphere and also get to see the university."
White's high school team just recently lost its first game of the season. "We're 3-1 at the moment," he said. "We lost in the fourth quarter to Lake Holland last week which was very frustating."
