Is Washington Set To Commit?

Owasso (OK) High School's Jacques Washington got to talk with Iowa State Head Coach Gene Chizik on his official visit to Ames this weekend and came away believing that Iowa State might be his future home.

"I'm going home and tonight I might commit to Iowa State," said Washington. "I just really like Coach Chizik. I believe in what he is doing and where he is taking the program."

Jacques added that Coach Chizik even felt that he reminded him of a former player of his. "He told me that he likes what he sees in me and that I remind him of his former Auburn player Carlos Rogers who is now in the NFL," said Washington. "He said that Carlos was like me in high school playing running back along with cornerback."

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete said that Iowa State is recruiting him as a cornerback and that according to the coaches he could see time next year. "They said that I would definitely have a chance to come in and compete as a freshman," he said.

Jacques also liked the atmosphere that he saw at Iowa State on game day and throughout the rest of the weekend. "I really liked everything about it and the whole atmosphere of the town," said Washington. "It was pretty packed at the game and I was just really focusing on the cornerbacks. I really liked watching Leonard Johnson and how he kept forcing fumbles."

Washington spent most of Saturday night with his hosts and really enjoyed himself. "I had a great time as it was pretty crazy," he said. "Lonzie (Range) and Dustin (Land) were real cool as my hosts and I liked all the players that I hung out with."

Jacques also has offers from Wyoming and Missouri State but said he is not planning any other visits at this time.
