Colvin Enjoys Visit To Iowa State

Whitney Young (IL) High School's Chris Colvin paid a visit to Ames this weekend and came away very impressed.

"We got in Friday and I went to dinner with the coaching staff and my family," said Colvin. "We talked about what my role would be if I went to Iowa State. Then after that I got to watch the guys practice and I also got to talk with some of the players."

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard spent most of his time during the weekend talking with Cyclone star forward Craig Brackins. "I mostly hung out with Craig and we had a good time talking. He's definitely someone that I could see myself playing with," said Colvin. "He broke things down about Iowa State for me. He told me that it's a great environment and that they receive great help from the professors in each class. Education is important for me so that was really important. He also told me that the crowds are great and that they support the team whether they win or lose. He also loves the coaching staff and how they treat the team. I was really impressed with what he had to say."

Chris said that he has mostly been in contact with Iowa State assistant coach Daniyal Robinson and that some of his family members have known him for years. "My uncle knows Coach Rob and my cousin played ball with him back in Rock Island," he said. "My uncle is also a big part of my recruitment and had lots of good things to say about him. They just really have a good feel for the type of person that he is."

Chris also got to hang out with Iowa State Head Coach Greg McDermott and came away very impressed. "I had talked to him on the phone and he had been at one of my open gym's but I hadn't really got to talk with him for a long time," said Colvin. "After hanging out with him during the weekend you could tell that he's really a good person and that he has set up a good family atmosphere. He really gets everyone involved at Iowa State."

Chris really liked all the activities on Saturday including getting to do something that he had never done before. "I got to play with the team before the game and that was a lot of fun," he said. "Then we went to the football game and that was tight because I had never been to a big-time college football game before."

Chris said that he's not sure who is leader is at the moment but he does know when he will likely make a final decision. "Right now I would say that Providence, Marquette, USC, and Iowa State are my favorites but I don't have a specific order at the moment," said Colvin. "I'll likely make my decision on November 19th because that is my birthday."
