Michael says that the Cyclones are recruiting him as a defensive end and that he feels pass rushing is his strength. "I have played some linebacker but I consider myself a defensive end," said Sam. "I feel I'm a pretty good pash rusher. I'm averaging two sacks a game this season."
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive end has offers from Arizona State, Colorado State, Iowa State, and Houston. He is also being heavily recruited by Oklahoma State. "I know I'm going to visit Colorado State in December," said Sam. "I'm also going to visit Oklahoma State in December and then I'm not sure where else I might visit."
Michael says that Iowa State assistant coach Shawn Raney has been recruiting him for a while. "They started looking at me last spring," he said. "Then Coach Raney came and visited my school a couple weeks ago when they were going to play Baylor. He came by to pick up my transcript."
Sam likes that he could play early at Iowa State but doesn't mind if he has to wait a while. "Coach Raney has told me that there is a lot of opportunities there," he said. "It's exciting but I don't feel that I'm totally where I want to be yet. I'm not against redshirting a year so that I can get bigger and stronger."
Sam says that he will be waiting until the end of his season before he considers making a final decision. "I'm definitely waiting until after my football season," he said. "I'm focused on my finishing my season first and when it's over I'll make my decision. I won't necessarily take all of my visits but I'm definitely going to wait."
