Women in Athletics Celebration Set

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State athletic department will play host to the fourth Celebration of Women in Athletics the weekend of Feb. 15, 2003, on the Iowa State campus.

This year's theme is "Celebrating Cyclone Excellence" and will honor Iowa State female student-athletes that competed from the Fall of 1994 to the present.

This group of female student-athletes has taken intercollegiate competition to new heights, representing ISU by furthering the foundation of excellence and sacrifices made by their ISU predecessors.

This year's celebration begins with a social reception and reunion with teammates on Friday, Feb. 14, from 7-9 p.m., at the ISU Alumni Association in the Memorial Union. The celebration will continue with a lunch and a program on Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Jacobson Athletic Building.

The student-athletes in attendance will be honored in a halftime ceremony at the Iowa State-Texas women's basketball game. The game starts at 3 p.m., in Hilton Coliseum. The general public is invited to attend the game and help honor these student-athletes at halftime.

This year's day of celebration is the fourth in a five-year process to honor the history of women's athletic competition at Iowa State. In 2000, ISU awarded a varsity "I" to women that competed at Iowa State from 1968-78. Student-athletes at ISU from 1979-84 were honored in 2001 and student-athletes from 1985-94 were honored last year.

Any female student-athlete who competed at Iowa State from 1968-present is welcome to attend this year's celebration if they were unable to attend their designated celebration time.
