White Talks With New Coach

Dallas Skyline (TX) High School's James White was at first very shocked when he heard that Gene Chizik was leaving Iowa State. Was the initial shock enough to get White thinking about changing his commitment?

"I'm still fully committed to Iowa State and totally done with my recruitment," he told Cyclone Sports Report. "I was just really surprised that all of a sudden he (Chizik) just up and left. He told me he was committed to me and to building a program but I understand because I know it's a business."

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound running back did recently get to talk with new Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads and he quickly liked what Rhoads had to say. "He seems like a pretty cool guy and he was just telling me that he watched my film and that he really liked it," said White. "He told me that I'm one of his main guys and that he can't wait to get me up there. He also told me that he's going to come down soon to meet my parents."

James also had an interesting experience over the holidays down in Texas. "I ran into Devin McDowell at the mall and we remembered each other from my visit," he said. "He told me he was surprised that Coach Chizik had left but that the team was feeling good about the future."
