Cyclones Make Offer To 2010 Recruit

It was very busy Saturday for Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads as his staff was entertaining numerous 2009 recruits as they look to finalized his first recruiting class. However, his busy schedule didn't get in the way of talking to a 2010 recruit who has grown up a Cyclone fan.

"I got a message to call Coach Rhoads and so I did and we talked for about ten minutes," said Denison-Schleswig High School's Brandon Scherff. "During the conversation he offered me a scholarship to Iowa State. I was real excited about it because usually not a lot of people look for Division 1 players in Denison."

Brandon now has two offers but is in no hurry to make a decision. "Iowa offered me last Sunday after I had gone to their junior day," he said. "I don't think I'll be a making a decision soon because I like both coaches. I'll be going to Iowa State's junior day on February 21st and then Coach Rhoads and I can get to know each other a lot better."

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound tight end says that he's not sure which position that he will play in college. "I played quarterback for the first five games this year and then I moved to tight end," said Scherff. "I also played defensive end on defense and both schools are pretty much looking at me as an offensive linemen or defensive lineman in college."

So did Brandon have a favorite school growing up? "I've always liked Iowa State the most," said Scherff. "One of my friends took me to a game when I was young and I just started liking them ever since."
