Cyclones Land Texas Wide Receiver

Iowa State recently added another offensive weapon to their 2009 recruiting class when Garland (TX) High School's Keith Blanton pledged his commitment to the new Cyclone staff.

"I committed earlier this week on the phone to Coach Rhoads," said Blanton. "Then some of the coaches came for a home visit this Wednesday to go over more stuff about Iowa State and to set up my visit for this weekend. I'm done with my recruiting and really excited to sign with Iowa State."

The former Tulsa commit is also looking forward to reuniting with one of his family members next year. "My host on my visit this weekend was Devin McDowell who is my cousin and DeAndre Jackson who also played for Iowa State is also my cousin," said Blanton. "They told me it would be a great place to go and to get away from Garland which is really a small town. Once I saw Iowa State I really liked it and it will be fun to be here with Devin because I know he'll look out for me."

Keith says that his switch from Tulsa to Iowa State really came down to two things. "The coaches are great and I really like the whole staff," he said. "I liked that they talked academics first and were really interested in making sure that we got our degree. The other factor was that Iowa State plays in the Big 12 and I consider to be a great conference."

Keith also really looks forward to playing in Coach Herman's spread offensive attack. "It's really the best offense to come play for if you are a wide receiver," he said. "They're going to throw the ball a lot and that's what I'm looking for. I'm very competitive and wherever they throw the ball I'm going to go get it."

The 6-foot, 185-pound wide receiver also has really enjoyed getting to know his future head coach. "I really like Coach Rhoads because he's really supportive," said Blanton. "He's really happy that I'm going to be up there and I think I'm going to really enjoy playing for him."
