2012 Recruit Enjoys Hilton Experience

South Sioux City (NE)High School's Mike Gesell took in his first game at Hilton Coliseum last Saturday. Cyclone Sports Report caught up with the outstanding freshman guard to find out how things went.

"It was the first time I went to a game at Hilton Coliseum at I thought it was a really good atmosphere," said Gesell. "My dad had been to a game there before but he also really liked it. It really gets loud in there."

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound guard also really liked what he saw despite the tough loss to Oklahoma. "I really liked Iowa State's style of play," said Gesell. "They played really hard and never gave up against a very good team."

Mike also enjoyed catching up with some of the Cyclone coaches and players. "I got to talk with Coach Rutter before the game which was nice," he said. "I also talked with Diante Garrett before the game. He remembered me from when I had come down earlier in the year and had got to play with some of the guys."

As for Gesell's season at South Sioux City High School things seem to be going very well. "Right now we're 9-4 and I think I'm getting better because I have gained a lot of experience," he said. "This level really gets your adrenaline pumping playing in front of such big crowds. It's really been a fun experience."
