Is Iowa State A Favorite For Hoch?

Harlan (IA) High School defensive end Matt Hoch is one of the top high school football prospects in the state. Cyclone Sports Report caught up with him to see what he thought of Iowa State's Junior Day and to see how serious his interest might be in Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: What types of things did you do this past Saturday in Ames?

Matt Hoch: They took me to talk to the defensive line coach and the defensive coordinator. While I was with them we watched a highlight tape. I really liked those coaches. Coach Burnham was real easy to communicate with and I think I could definitely get along with him. We also toured the facilities and ate but I couldn't go to the basketball game because I had to leave for a wrestling tournament.

CSR: Did you get a chance to speak with Coach Rhoads?

MH: Yeah, I got to talk with him and he was real nice. It was just to get to know each other a little better and he shared with me how much he wants me to come to Iowa State. He wants me to come check out Iowa State more this summer and I probably will.

CSR: What is your current height and weight?

MH: I'm 6-foot-3 and I weigh 225 pounds.

CSR: Your brother Dan is an offensive lineman for Missouri. How much influence will he have on your decision?

MH: He's loving it there at Missouri and he thinks he's going to get me to go down there but I don't know yet.

CSR: What schools have offered you a scholarship?

MH: Iowa, Missouri, Iowa State, and Stanford.

CSR: Do have a school that is your current leader?

MH: I would say that the three midwest schools are in the lead along with Nebraska who is recruiting me hard but they haven't offered me yet. I think it's likely I'll end up in the Big 12 or the Big 10.

CSR: Why is Iowa State one of your leaders?

MH: I realized that after talking with Coach Rhoads that he is really serious about getting things done there. They are definitely a school that I am strongly considering.

CSR: Have you taken any other visits so far?

MH: Yeah, I have been to Missouri and Nebraska and I liked them both.

CSR: Have you ever been to an Iowa State home game?

MH: Yeah, I have been to a couple and they are fun because the stadium is usually pretty packed for the game.

CSR: When do you think you will make your final decision?

MH: I want to try and get it done before my senior season so it will pretty much depend on when I finally feel comfortable with the right school. It will probably be around the end of the summer.
