ISU Offers Wisconsin Defensive End

Will Iowa State be adding another defensive star from Kimberly (WI) High School?

If one of the stars of their 2009 recruiting class gets his way then they definitely will. "A.J. (Klein) is not pressuring me too much but he really wants me to go to Iowa State and play with him," said Mike Hardy.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive end has recently picked up his first two scholarship offers from Purdue and Iowa State and is also being recruited heavily by Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Northern Illinois. "It's really amazing being considered one of the top prospects in the state," said Hardy. "I didn't sense it would happen this fast since I only recently sent out my tape to some of the schools."

Mike has only been to one school but plans to make a bunch of visits in the coming months. "I have been to two junior days at Wisconsin and I will be attending the spring game at Iowa State in April," he said. "I'm also going to go down to Purdue and I just talked with the Minnesota coach and so I'll likely be setting up a visit there also."

Mike has mostly been talking with Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads and feels the two are developing a very solid relationship. "He has seen my tape and really likes my quick feet and how I use my hands and my body on defense," said Hardy. "I really like talking with him because he's really energetic and encouraging. He really wants me to go to Iowa State and he is really trying to get to know me and trying to build our relationship."

Mike was a major factor this past season in helping Kimberly High School to their second straight Division II State Championship. He had six sacks, ten tackles behind the line of scrimmage, two forced fumbles, and a blocked punt. His teammate and future Cyclone A.J. Klein has definitely outlined the advantages to Iowa State. "He told me that he really likes the coach and that they will definitely give you the chance to play early if you are deserving and he also told me about how he really likes the academic side of Iowa State," said Hardy. "We're really good friends so it would be great to get to play with him again in college. He's definitely helping me with the recruiting process and I think that I'll probably go with him when I visit Iowa State for their spring game."

Mike is very excited about the recruiting process but he is not ready to make any final decision in the near future. "I'm definitely going to take all these visits to these schools that are showing me the most interest to check out the football program and the academic program," said Hardy. "I could make a decision this summer but I might also wait until after my senior season. I'm just not sure yet."
