The 6-foot-5, 250-pound offensive tackle had offers from some smaller schools like Nebraska-Omaha and Winona State but was really hoping for a chance to play at Iowa State throughout his senior year. "I had sent my tape to Coach Chizik's staff but hadn't really heard anything," he said. "Then when Coach Rhoads came on as coach I sent my tape up there again." Iowa State then began showing more interest in Bangtson. "I spoke with Coach Link quite a bit and I was really impressed by him," he said. "Then I went on a visit a few weeks ago to see the school and got a really good tour."
During his visit, Mike got to visit some with Coach Rhoads and came away very impressed. "It was 8 o'clock in the morning and yet he was very energetic and you could tell how excited he was to be there at Iowa State," said Bangtson. "You can just tell that he has a lot of respect for the people in the area and all the fans. I can't wait to start playing with him."
Mike is also excited that he'll get to enjoy his journey at Iowa State with one of his closest friends. "Jay Brummel (Cedar Falls teammate) is also going to be walking on with me at Iowa State," said Bangtson. "We have been best friends and have played football together since 5th grade. I think we'll be rooming together."
