Iowa State Looking At Minnesota Guard

Cyclone Sports Report goes one-on-one with 2011 basketball recruit Jordan Smith. The Orono High School guard is one of the best sophomores in the state of Minnesota.

Cyclone Sports Report: What schools are looking at you the hardest?

Jordan Smith: I don't have any scholarship offers yet but Iowa State, Oregon State, Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Pepperdine have been the schools talking to me the most. Lately, it has been Oregon State and Northwestern that have been recruiting me the hardest.

CSR: Have you taken any visits yet?

JS: Last summer I went to Wisconsin and this fall I took visits to Pepperdine and Iowa State.

CSR: When did Iowa State start recruiting you?

JS: During the AAU season last summer they watched me play and started sending me letters. Then Coach Rutter came to my high school to watch me during my open gym late this past fall.

CSR: How many points have you averaged this season?

JS: 25 points a game

CSR: What do you feel is your biggest strength?

JS: I would say my shot. When Coach Rutter came out he told me that my shot is what impressed him the most.

CSR: What do you need to improve on the most?

JS: I still need to work on my ball handling, especially against pressure defense.

CSR: What did you think about your visit to Iowa State?

JS: I like it a lot. I haven't been to that many schools but I really liked the atmosphere and it has good academics.

CSR: Did you get to meet Coach McDermott?

JS: Yeah, I really love him as a coach. He just seemed like a really good guy. I think he's well-balanced and he gives his players a longer leash which is the type of coach that I need. He won't just take you out right away if you make one mistake like some coaches.
