Meet Jay Brummel

Cedar Falls (IA) High School's Jay Brummel talks with Cyclone Sports Report about why he has decided to walk-on at Iowa State next year.

Cyclone Sports Report: You rushed for 1,400 yards last year at Cedar Falls High School but also played defensive back. What position will you be playing at Iowa State?

Jay Brummel: They told me probably at safety and just anywhere I can fit on special teams.

CSR: How did this opportunity come about for you to walk-on at Iowa State?

JB: I had talked with Coach Chizik a little bit when he was there and I also ended up going on a visit. After the coaching change, I sent tape to Coach Rhoads and he later offered me a preferred walk-on position which I quickly accepted.

CSR: What other schools were you considering?

MB: Drake and Butler

CSR: Why did you choose Iowa State?

MB: I'm a huge Iowa State fan and really so is my whole family. My parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and my grandma are all huge Cyclone fans. I grew up going to a lot of the games.

CSR: What did you think of Coach Rhoads when you met him?

MB: He seemed like a really nice guy. I like that he's from Iowa.

CSR: What are your expectations coming in as a walk-on?

MB: I'm just going to do whatever they ask and see what happens. I really hope to get on the field at some point.
