Florida DL Returns From Visit

After taking his most recent official visit this weekend, a talented defensive tackle from the high school ranks in Central Florida appears to have a favorite.

Bartow (Fla.) High defensive tackle Bakahri Thornton took a trip to Eastern Kentucky and arrived home Sunday night with good things to say.

"It was great," said Thornton, a two-time all-district selection from Bartow, a Class 3A school located between the Orlando and Tampa areas. "It was a nice area and campus. They have a new coach and everybody is excited. They're probably my favorite right now."

Thornton could potentially visit some bigger name Division I programs in the following weeks, however. He has Iowa State scheduled for Jan. 17-18, and is waiting to make arrangements with Florida for the following weekend.

Iowa State's probably third behind Florida," he said.

But the 6-foot-3, 260-pounder he's having trouble gauging the degree of ISU's interest.

"They've got a good team, but I won't know much about the school until my visit," Thornton said of the Cyclones. "I am supposed to visit next weekend, but I haven't heard from them in a while. I don't know what's going on up there. The last time (Coach Chris Ash) called he was trying to re-arrange my visit. It was originally supposed to be this weekend."

Indiana State, Florida Atlantic, Howard and Tennessee State are also in the mix, with Eastern Kentucky and Howard having offered scholarships.

Thornton's Bartow team finished 4-7 this season playing in District 9-3A.
