Cyclones Make Offer To Florida Cornerback

Iowa State has one 2010 commitment on the offensive side of the ball. Could Baker (FL) High School cornerback Joseph Byrd be the first to commit on the defensive side?

"Right now I like Indiana the most but I also like Iowa State a lot," said Byrd. "I call them about once every week or two and things are going real well with them."

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback from Cape Coral, Florida now has received scholarship offers from Minnesota, Iowa State, Indiana, UCONN, Louisville, FIU, and Marshall. He has talked to a few Iowa State coaches so far and came away very impressed when he got the chance to speak with Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads. "I've talked with their running backs and defensive backs coach and I also had a real good talk with Coach Rhoads," said Byrd. "He was cool and just seems like a really good guy who would be fun to play for."

Joseph is not sure when he will be making a final decision and for right now he is just focusing on one thing at the moment. "I'm just training for nationals (track) on June 20th at the University of North Carolina," he said. "I'm just really excited to run and I'll also take some visits in that week. I plan on getting to N.C. State, Duke, and Wake Forest."

Joseph has a run a 10.4 in the 100-yard dash and a 21.5 in the 200 yard-dash.
