Cyclones Target Florida Athlete

Will a friendship with one of Iowa State's cornerback's lead to a commitment from Lakewood (FL)High School's Bernard Reedy?

"I played against Leonard Johnson in high school because I've been on varsity since my freshman year and we have become friends," said Reedy. "I just talked to him the other day and he was telling me that Iowa State is a great school. He told me that you just have to go and compete and he feels that with my style of play that I could possibly play early there."

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound athlete has scholarship offers from Georgia Southern, Buffalo, Toledo, Iowa State, Towson, and Middle Tennessee and says that some of them are recruiting him as a wide receiver and others want him as a cornerback.

So what position is position is Iowa State recruiting him to play? "They're actually looking at me for both," said Reedy. "Their defensive coaches like my cover skills and the way I attack the ball. Their offensive coaches like my speed and ability to take a short pass and turn it into a long gain. They want me as a slot receiver."

Iowa State started recruiting Bernard during the spring and that has led to a very solid relationship with one of its assistant coaches. "I really like Coach Burnham a lot," said Reedy. "He's real cool and outgoing and he tells you what he's looking for. He's just real straight forward and that's what I like about him."

Bernard is not ready to make a decision yet but he is sure of some of his future plans. "I'm going to be taking visits to Syracuse and Iowa State," he said. "Syracuse hasn't offered me yet but they are recruiting me pretty hard and Iowa State is my top school at the moment so I definitely plan to take a visit there. They're clearly the school that is recruiting me the hardest which definitely helps them out because they've shown that they believe in me."
