2010 Commit Takes In First ISU Game

Garland (TX) High School's Jared Barnett was Iowa State's first commitment for its 2010 recruiting class. He had already taken a visit this summer to Iowa State but this past Saturday he got to experience his first game in Ames and came away extremely impressed.

"There is not even words for how great the Iowa State student section was during the game," said Barnett. "Getting to watch the spirit walk before the game was a lot of fun and definitely something to look forward. The whole game was just insane and so much fun to be around."

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound quarterback told Cyclone Sports Report that he was not the only one to enjoy the weekend trip. "Last time I only came with my dad but this time I brought my mom, dad, sister, and my grandma," said Barnett. "They all really enjoyed everything about Iowa State."

Jared also got to catch up with the Iowa State coaches throughout the day on Saturday. "I talked with the coaches before breakfast in the morning and then I also got to talk with Coach Rhoads after the game," said Barnett.

"He just told me that they can't win football games by turning the ball over that many times. He said that they just have to take care of their business and get back on track by winning some games."

Another highlight for Jared was catching up with what one might call the Garland Pipeline. "After the game I got to hang out with Keith Blanton, Devin McDowell, and DeAndre Jackson (back at Iowa State getting his master's degree)," he said.

"They all went to Garland and I have known them all for a long time. Devin was really pumped to see me and DeAndre and I got to talk for a long time. He just told me to stay focused and to take advantage of my opportunities when I get to Iowa State next year."
