ISU On Defense Against Army

This week the Cyclone defense prepares for the unique triple option offense that Army will bring to Ames on Saturday.

The Cyclone Sports Report Three Keys To Look For On Saturday Evening:

1)STOP THEM EARLY-The Black Knights have scored a touchdown on their first possession in each of their first three games. The last thing that Iowa State needs to do on Saturday is to allow Army to gain some confidence right away on the road. They can't use the excuse of adjusting to the triple option because they'll be breaking down film and preparing for it all week long.

2)PUT EIGHT IN THE BOX-Iowa State is averaging giving up 149 rushing yards a game and Army is averaging 257 rushing yards a game (7th in the nation) so obvioiusly the Iowa State defense MUST force Army to beat them in the air. We know they are going to run the ball a lot but if the Iowa State defense can stop the run it will force them out of their comfort zone.

3)STOP VILLANUEVA-Some Iowa State fans might think it's Charlie Villanueva playing wide receiver for Army but it's actually Alejandro Villanueva who is a 6-foot-10 inch nightmare matchup in the red zone. Army will try and run the ball down the field but when they get in the red zone they definitely will be looking for Villanueva who has caught a touchdown pass in each of the last two games.
