Cyclone Staff Adds Another Iowan

Thanks to its most recent commitment, Iowa State continues to address a key area of need for the recruiting Class of 2003.

In an apparent departure from what his thoughts were early in the week, Muscatine's Ben Barkema has decided to accept a scholarship offer from Iowa State. He is the 26th addition for 2003. Even stranger, it appears that Iowa came through with a scholarship offer of its own yesterday and Barkema still went with ISU's original offer instead.

Barkema, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end, will give the Cyclone depth chart a much needed boost in the future. Coach Dan McCarney now has secured commitments from two high school tight ends, including San Diego (Calif.) Point Loma's Brandon Tinlin, and signed Kilgore (Texas) JUCO standout James Wright in December.
