Cyclones Targeting Ankeny Defensive Tackle

Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads has turned to his old high school roots while pursuing Ankeny defensive tackle Brandon Jensen.

"I came up for the Iowa game with my dad and my brother and Coach Rhoads offered me a scholarship before the game," said Jensen. "I didn't know it was going to happen so I was a little shocked because I was not really expecting that to happen."

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive tackle didn't make any final decision on his visit for the Iowa game but he clearly has become a fan of the Cyclones head coach.

"I just really like his personality," he said. "I just think he's going to really do good at Iowa State and that he will be leading them to great things in the future. I could definitely see myself playing for him and it doesn't hurt that he's an Ankeny grad."

Brandon currently holds offers from Iowa State and UNI but is also being looked at by Iowa. "They are looking at me and I recently took an unofficial visit there," he said. "My goal is to commit after the season but if some of the open scholarhsips start closing at some schools then I might have to make a decision earlier."

Brandon said that Iowa State has been recruiting him for a long time. "The old staff was looking at me last year and then the new staff called me and I attended a one-day camp at Iowa State this summer," said Jensen. "At the beginning of my season they came to two of my games and I've just stayed in regular contact with Coach Ash. We have a good relationship and I would say we talk pretty much every week."

Heading into his game this past weekend, Brandon had helped lead Ankeny High Schoo to a 5-1 record by recording 41 tackles and 5 sacks.
