ISU On Defense Against Baylor

The Iowa State defense is looking to recover against Baylor on Saturday from a rough outing at Kansas last week in which they gave up 551 yards of offense.

The Cyclone Sports Report Three Keys To Look For On Saturday Evening:

1)SACK THE QUARTERBACK-Iowa State has a grand total of one sack over the past two weeks which is clearly not good enough. The ISU defense allowed Todd Reesing to throw for a career high 442 yards and four touchdowns last weekend mainly because he felt almost no pressure throughout the game. That has to change on Saturday if the Cyclones want to win their first Big 12 game.

2)STOP THE BEARS ON THIRD DOWN-Iowa State has allowed Kansas and Kansas State to convert on 12 of 23 third down attempts the last two weeks and that is just not good enough. If Iowa State wants a homecoming victory they need to step up on third down and get the Baylor offense off the field.

3)START MIXING IN THE YOUNG GUYS-Many of the veteran starters on the Iowa State defense are just not getting the job done. If this continues Coach Rhoads needs to start mixing in more of the younger guys who will be such a big part of the Iowa State program for the next few years. Winning the games is the most important thing right now but he also needs to consider that some of the freshman and sophomores like A.J. Klein, Jeremy Reeves, and Roosevelt Maggitt might do just as well as the guys ahead of them are doing. It would hard to think they could do worse.
