Richardson feeling comfortable at Iowa State

Crespi (CA) High School star tight end Pierce Richardson made his second visit to Iowa State this weekend and is starting to feel like Ames could be his future home for his college football career.

"There's just a comfort level there now because I know the coaches real well and I'm just really high on Iowa State," said Richardson. "They are my clear leader at this time."

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound tight end really sees himself fitting into the new Iowa State offense. "They threw to their tight end a lot on Saturday and Coach Herman told me after the game that he would be using me the same way if I picked Iowa State," said Richardson.

"Playing time is a major issue for me and they told that I would likely redshirt my first year and that I could then be competing for the starting tight end position the next season."

Pierce took a visit back in August to Iowa State but this time he got to experience game-day in Ames. "I had toured the school and seen the academic center but this time we got to see the spirit walk and the people were all just really nice," he said. "That's why this time was great because I got to really take in the whole game-day experience."

He also enjoyed catching up with one of Iowa State's tight ends. "Last time I visited I got to know Collin Franklin pretty well because he plays my position and he's also from Simi Valley, California," said Richardson. "He told me his experience has been great and that it has been no big deal coming all the way from California. I don't think it would be a big deal for me either."

Richardson then concluded his visit by discussing things with Coach Rhoads. "He's just real impressive and I told him that Iowa State is exactly what I'm looking for," he said. "He told me we're going to start winning Big 12 championships and that he wants me to be a part of it."

Pierce is just not sure yet when he will make his final decision. "It could happen tomorrow or I could wait to February," he said. "The one thing I do know is that once I make my commitment my recruitment will be officially over."
