Richardson excited to be a Cyclone

Cyclone Sports Report goes one-on-one with Crespi (CA) High School tight end Pierce Richardson after he ended his recruitment Monday night by committing to Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: You chose not to commit this weekend on your visit. Was it just a matter of talking it over with your family?

Pierce Richardson: I just had to talk to my dad and he was really comfortable with the coaching staff so I just decided to wait until today to tell them that I wanted to commit.

CSR: What is the main reason you chose to commit to Iowa State?

PR: I just really see myself there for the next five years. It's a great place to be and I just love it.

CSR: How important taking a second visit to Ames in regards to you ultimately committing to Iowa State?

PR: When I left Ames after my first visit in August I knew I wanted to play my college football at Iowa State but my dad said to wait and to play some games during my senior year before I made my final decision. I wanted to see a game there and to hang out with the players to see if I would fit in. I really liked the game atmosphere and felt I fit in with the players so I knew then that Iowa State was the place for me.

How important was Collin Franklin in your recruitment?

PR: It's been great hanging with him because we're both just a couple of Cali kids. I mean I can't lie because it's going to be an adjustment but hearing about his experience at Iowa State really helped a lot.

CSR: How do you feel to be done with the recruiting process?

PR: It's good to be done and it is really a weight off my shoulders. It was fun and it's something that I'll never forget but I'm just glad to be a Cyclone.

CSR: How did Coach Rhoads react to you telling him that you wanted to be a Cyclone?

PR: He told me that I made his day and that he wasn't going to be able to sleep tonight. He told me that he knew back in August that Iowa State was the place for me.

CSR: So now are you pushing your teammate Ben Loth to be the next commitment to Iowa State?

PR: In a way yeah because I really want to come with me but I understand that he'll have to make the best decision for himself and I respect that. I know he loved the visit also and I hope he also chooses Iowa State.
