Cyclones add Texas cornerback

Lancaster (TX) High School's Matt Thomas recently fulfilled a dream of his when he pledged his commitment to Iowa State.

"I'm committed to Iowa State and I really can't believe that I'm going to get to play in the Big 12," said Thomas. "It's just a blessing because I always wanted to and that's all we talked about growing up but now for it to be happening is like living out a dream."

The 5-foot-10, 163-pound cornerback was also being recruited by Utah, Louisiana Tech, and New Mexico but decided to end his recruitment this past weekend during his official visit to Iowa State. "After I met everybody I was sure this was the place for me," said Thomas. "They really showed me a lot of love and it's just like a big family at Iowa State. I also know that I will get a great education which really makes it a perfect situation for me."

Matt said Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads was not surprised when he told the coach of his decision. "I think he knew I was going to commit," said Thomas. "So he asked me if want to be a Cyclone and I said yes sir. I told him that's definitely what I want to be and then we got up and hugged. I definitely look forward to playing for him."

Matt said that Iowa State only started looking hard at him in the past month. "I started hearing from Coach Bray during the last couple of months and then he came to my school," he said. "They offered me shortly after he saw my film. They said that they liked everything about my corner skills. I can play in zone schemes and I can play man-to-man also."
