The 6-foot-5, 185-pound wing is averaging 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists on the young season and he says part of the reason for his good start is due to improvements in his overall game. "I've really gotten a lot better since last year," said Cook. "My ability to catch and shoot and my shooting off the dribble in games is just a lot better."
Elgin says that he stays in touch with the Iowa State staff on a consistent basis. "The coaches and I talk about every other day and I've really developed a good relationship with all of them," he said. "Coach McDermott has been really great helping me and always making sure that I'm doing okay and that I'm keeping up with my school work."
He says that they will likely be watching him in the near future and that he hopes he'll be able to catch an Iowa State game sometime in the near future. "We have a holiday tournament down in South Carolin and I think Coach T.J. (Otzelberger) will be coming to some of my games down there," said Cook. "I'm also hoping to make it up to Iowa State for a game and I might be going to the Duke game in Chicago."
Elgin has also enjoyed staying in touch with some of his future teammates. "I stay in touch mainly with Diante (Garrett), Antwon (Oliver), and Chris (Colvin)," he said. "We talk for a while about how are seasons are going and just check in on how things are going for each other."
