Iowa State lands 2010 basketball commitment

Cyclone Sports Report goes one-on-one with Beaverton (OR) High School center Jordan Railey who ended his recruitment today by committing to Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: How long has Iowa State been recruiting you and which coach have you dealt with the most?

Jordan Railey: They started looking at me during the early part of the fall. Coach T.J. (Otzelberger) had heard about me so he asked my coach for tape of me and then he came to some open gyms. He then came and saw me this past week at the Les Schwab Holiday Tournament.

Cyclone Sports Report: What is your relationship like with Coach Otzelberger?

Jordan Railey: I just felt that we had a connection right away and we just really get along. Even though we talk a lot of basketball I'm also comfortable talking about anything with him.

Cyclone Sports Report: What did he say that the staff likes most about your game?

Jordan Railey: They like the fact that I can face up in the post and they feel that I have a good shooting touch for a big man. They also like my defense and the know that I love to play defense.

Cyclone Sports Report: Have you visited Iowa State yet?

Jordan Railey: No, I'll be taking my official visit on January 30th.

Cyclone Sports Report: Why did you choose to end your recruitment today and commit to Iowa State?

Jordan Railey: My gut was telling me that Iowa State is where I should go. I just feel it's the right fit for me and my mom was also really happy. She loves the fact that I'm going to Iowa State and she's also kind of glad that my recruitment is over.

Cyclone Sports Report: Have you talked much with Iowa State head coach Greg McDermott?

Jordan Railey: Yeah, I talked with him a few times back in the fall and then I talked with him today to talk about my commitment.

Cyclone Sports Report: What did you think about your conversations with Coach McDermott?

Jordan Railey: I like him and I know what he has done to help Craig Brackins become a great player. I really like that he's a big guy coach that will understand me and help me become a better post player.

Cyclone Sports Report: What other schools had offered you or were recruiting you pretty hard?

Jordan Railey: I had offers from Portland State, Pacific, and Utah State. I was also being recruited by St.Mary's, Drake, and Washington State.

Cyclone Sports Report: What is your current height and weight?

Jordan Railey: I'm 6-foot-10 and I weigh 235 pounds.

Cyclone Sports Report: How happy are you to know that you will be playing your college basketball in the Big 12?

Jordan Railey: I'm really excited about it and I really don't have the words to describe it. I'm just so happy that I'll be able to play at that level in college.
