Kirksey names a leader

Cyclone Sports Report goes one-on-one with Daytona Beach (FL) Mainland High School defensive tackle Kenneth Kirksey to see how things went on his recent visit to Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: How did you enjoy your visit to Ames this past weekend?

Kenneth Kirksey: I had a lot of fun. I went with my mom and auntie and they really liked it. My auntie just seemed to fall in love with Iowa State.

Cyclone Sports Report: Who was your host for the weekend?

Kenneth Kirksey: Stephen Ruempolhamer who everyone was calling Dutch. That's my dog right there as he was real funny and we had a great time. I really got a long with all the players.

Cyclone Sports Report: What were some of the main things that you did during the visit?

Kenneth Kirksey: Friday night I spent having dinner with the players and coaches and I really got to hang with the players later in the night. Then on Saturday I got to see the players do their drills and see the facilities. I really liked the dome because I'm from Florida and I know it gets cold up there in Iowa. Then we went to the basketball game and I was really impressed with the crowd. I felt like I was in that spirit walk they do before the football games. Then I hung with the players again on Saturday night and then we went on Sunday morning to have breakfast with Coach Rhoads before leaving back to Florida.

Cyclone Sports Report: What did you think of Coach Rhoads?

Kenneth Kirksey: I liked him and I thought he was a real funny guy. He told me that Iowa State is a really good school and that he thought it would be a good spot for me. He told me that the academics are real good and that he would do everything possible to make sure that I graduated which is the most important thing to me.

Cyclone Sports Report: Did you get to see the Academic Center?

Kenneth Kirksey: Yeah and I can tell that Iowa State is a great institution. They showed how things would be set up the main lady that we talked with was real helpful.

Cyclone Sports Report: You have now taken visits to Florida International and Iowa State. Will you be taking any other visits before signing day?

Kenneth Kirksey: Yeah, I'll be going to Rutgers this weekend and then I'll eventually make my decision on signing day.

Cyclone Sports Report: So are you pretty much down to those three schools?

Kenneth Kirksey: Yeah, Michigan State is the lowest of my top four. Then I would say Rutgers is still in the lead but I'm still not sure because I really like Iowa State and Florida International also.
