Meet Jeff Arends

Cyclone Sports Report talks Forest City High School's Jeff Arends who will be walking on at Iowa State next season.

Cyclone Sports Report: When did Iowa State start recruiting you?

Jeff Arends: About two ago years they started looking at me when Chizik was there. When he left the new staff kept talking with me so I kept going up to some of their camps.

Cyclone Sports Report: What did the coaches tell you that they liked most about you?

Jeff Arends: My speed is the big thing because they told me that they feel that I can run with the best.

Cyclone Sports Report: What is your forty time?

Jeff Arends: I run a 4.48

Cyclone Sports Report: What is your current height and weight?

Jeff Arends: I'm 5-foot-10 and I weigh 185 pounds.

Cyclone Sports Report: You played both wide receiver and defensive back in high school. What position do they feel is best for you at Iowa State?

Jeff Arends: At first I thought they would want me for slot receiver but then I talked with Coach Burnham and he told me that they want me to beef up a little bit and play safety.

Cyclone Sports Report: Have you got to talk much with Coach Rhoads?

Jeff Arends: Yeah, the first time was at one of the camps. He pulled me aside and told me that he liked how I played and that showed me that he cared a lot and ever since then I just felt that Iowa State might be the best place for me.

Cyclone Sports Report: Did you have any scholarship offers from any other schools?

Jeff Arends: I had a lot of Division II schools looking at me but I always wanted the chance to play at the highest level. I feel I have the focus and drive to do that and I also like that Iowa State has had walk-on's who have become important players for them like Jesse Smith, Michael O'Connell, and Jake Williams.
