Cyclone Sports Report: Have you heard from any other major schools so far?
Christian French: The only other school to call my coach to show interest was Notre Dame.
Cyclone Sports Report: What is your current height and weight?
Christian French: I'm 6-foot-6 and I weigh 216 pounds.
Cyclone Sports Report: When did Iowa State start recruiting you?
Christian French: They were looking at me during my season but they really started recruiting me pretty heavily after my season ended. Coach Messingham from Iowa State went through my coach and then I first talked with him through a conference call.
Cyclone Sports Report: Have you been to Iowa State for a visit?
Christian French: Yeah, I went there for the Oklahoma State game and it was really a great experience. I just felt the whole visit was really exciting.
Cyclone Sports Report: What does it feel like to already have offers from the top two schools in the state?
Christian French: It's real nice and just gives me a lot of confidence that all my hard work is starting to pay off. It's great to be noticed as one of the better players in the state but I know that I still have to stay focused to do really well for next season.
Cyclone Sports Report: Did you get to meet Coach Rhoads during your visit to Ames?
Christian French: Yes, he's a great guy and throughout getting to talk with him he just seems like a real stand-up guy. He had a lot of nice things to say about what he thought of my abilities and then he told me that he would love for me to come and play for him at Iowa State.
Cyclone Sports Report: Were you more of a Cyclone or Hawkeye fan growing up here in Iowa?
Christian French: I'm actually pretty neutral when it comes to that topic. I've always liked both schools. I actually know Ben Lamaak from Iowa State because I play with his brother and I also know Keenan Davis and A.J. Derby from Iowa so I cheer for both.
Cyclone Sports Report: What does the Iowa State staff like most about you as a player?
Christian French: They told me that they like that I'm an all-around athlete and they really like my speed for my size. Coach Rhoads said that he likes that I'm raw so that they could mold me into the player that they would like.
Cyclone Sports Report: Iowa State was able to win a bowl game in Coach Rhoads first season after only winning two games the year before. How does that impact your view of Iowa State from a recruits standpoint?
Christian French: It shows that he put together a strong team his first year and shows that what he is doing is working so far. I definitely think that it is a positive that will help with recruiting.
Cyclone Sports Report: Do you have a favorite school at the moment and do you have a time frame for when you want to make a final decision?
Christian French: No, I'm completely wide open right now and I really can't say when I will make my final decision. I definitely want to take some visits and then I'll decide at some time in the future.
