The 5-foot-7, 160-pound wide receiver also has an offer from Kansas State and he is also hearing from Nebraska, Iowa, UCLA, and Michigan. So far he has been very impressed with the Iowa State coaching staff.
"I like that Luke Wells is the recruiting coach in my area and that he would be my position coach if I picked Iowa State," said Lampkin. "We've exchanged e-mails and then I got to meet him on Saturday and he's a great guy."
Wells made it clear to Lampkin on Saturday that he had the type of skills that Iowa State is looking for on offense. "He told me that he feels that I'm an explosive playmaker that can make people miss," said Lampkin. "He feels that I can do anything when I have the ball in my hands."
Ted also liked meeting Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads and he's also impressed with what the Cyclones were able to accomplish in year one under Rhoads.
"The fact that they won seven games really impresses me because it shows that they are all buying into what he's doing and so obviously he's doing something right," said Lampkin. "When I got to talk with him I really liked him and he told me that he's real excited about me being there for their junior day. He told me that they are already moving forward from last season so that they can be successful next year."
Ted also likes the style of offense that the Cyclones run and feels he would fit in real well. "It's very attractive because I would love to play in the spread offense in college," he said. "I like any offense that likes to throw the ball. They are looking at me as a slot receiver and to also return punts and kicks."
Lampkin is enjoying the recruiting process so far but he is definitely not ready to make any final decision. "I don't really have any leader right now because it's early and I'm just looking for the best fit for me," he said. "I'll probably wait until the fall to take my visits and then I'll make my final decision."
