John Wilkins: They started talking with me during the summer and then they started to recruit me pretty hard during the fall.
Cyclone Sports Report: Which schools are your favorites at the moment?
John Wilkins: I'm pretty much down to two schools. It's very likely that I will either attend Iowa State or Indiana.
Cyclone Sports Report: Due to your situation with the NCAA, you have not played the last two years while attending Southeastern Community College. How frustrating has it been to just be able to practice during the season?
John Wilkins: It's very frustrating having to sit out and it's really tough to watch the games at times. When my teammates struggle I want to get in there and help but I can't which has been a very frustrating process.
Cyclone Sports Report: How would you describe your game?
John Wilkins: I feel that I'm a face-up power forward. I like to shoot a lot and I feel I can play inside and out. I love to face-up my defender and then either shoot the mid-range jump shot or drive to the basket for a dunk.
Cyclone Sports Report: What is your current height and weight?
John Wilkins: I'm 6-foot-9 and I weigh 215 pounds.
Cyclone Sports Report: Have you taken visits to Iowa State and Indiana?
John Wilkins: I have not been to Indiana yet but I'm hoping to take a visit there. I have been to Iowa State four different times during this year.
Cyclone Sports Report: Have you bonded with any of the Iowa State players?
John Wilkins: Yeah, I've become real close with Craig Brackins, Chris Colvin, and LaRon Dendy. We all get along real well. I like that they have a good young point guard in Chris Colvin because my dad (former NBA player Jeff Wilkins) has told me to choose a school that has a solid point guard.
Cyclone Sports Report: There is a chance that if you picked Iowa State that you could possibly be replacing Brackins due to the likelihood that he will be heading to the NBA. What does it mean to you to know that the Iowa State coaches feel that you can fill that role?
John Wilkins: It really means a lot because it means that they trust me and believe in my game. I feel that it shows that they feel that I can play at the highest level.
Cyclone Sports Report: How many years of eligibility will you have at the school that you choose?
John Wilkins: I will either have three or four years depending on the ruling that that NCAA makes this year. They have already determined that I will have to sit out the first five games next season and then I can start playing.
Cyclone Sports Report: What is your relationship like with the Iowa State coaching staff?
John Wilkins: It's real good and I like all the coaches. I have a good relationship with Coach (Daniyal) Robinson and I just feel that I can open myself up to him. He's a very nice guy and I also have a real good relationship with Coach McDermott. He's told me a lot in regards to how they would use me at Iowa State.
Cyclone Sports Report: When do you expect to make your final decision?
John Wilkins: This weekend we are going to Hutchinson (KS) for the tournament and we'll be there for a week. Once the tournament is over there's a good chance that I'll make my final decision during that next week.
