Cyclones offer Florida quarterback

Iowa State looks to add depth at the quarterback position for the future by offering a scholarship to Land O'Lakes (FL) High School's Stephen Weatherford.

"Yeah, they offered me last week," said Weatherford. "I also have offers from USF and Vanderbilt and I'm being recruited pretty hard by Purdue, Illinois, FIU, Boston College, and East Carolina."

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback has been talking with Iowa State assistant coach Shane Burnham. So what does the Cyclone staff like about Weatherford?

"They saw my game film and they really think I'd be a good fit for their offense," said Weatherford. "They like the fact that I already play the spread and that I can make plays with my feet."

Stephen and Coach Burnham have discussed a possible visit to Iowa State but nothing has been set in stone.

"We have talked about and I definitely want to visit but I'm not sure yet when I'll be able to," said Weatherford. "I plan on setting up a schedule to go to some camps and to take some unofficial visits for the summer."

Stephen's older brother is former Florida State quarterback Drew Weatherford and former Seminole has offered his younger brother some advice on his recruitment.

"He told me to not just look at the schools for football," said Weatherford. "He said to make sure it's a good school for education and that I like the area."

Weatherford, who has been a varsity starting quarterback since his sophomore year, feels that his college choice could really be made at anytime in the future.

"I want to look around right now but I would really like to make decision before my season starts," he said. "I want to find a situation where I'll be able to compete and where they can help make me a better quarterback. If I find that this summer then I'll make my decision even earlier."
