Omaha Central's Latest Weapon

Gale Sayers, Ahman Green, Calvin Jones and Keith Jones are just some of the great backs that Omaha (Neb.) Cenrtal High School has produced and all went on to play for the Cornhuskers but Sayers (Kansas).

This upcoming year at Central High School, there will be yet another running back prospect, Brandon Gunn. Gunn is 5-11 and 190 pounds.

"He has great power for his size," Head Coach Joe McMenamin said. "As a sophomore, he started as a fullback for us and that did him a world of good because it helped out his total game. He can block and catch. Last season, he had 4 touchdown receptions of 50 yards or more."

Last year, Gunn rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 scores. He also played cornerback.

"I think I read the field real well," Gunn said. "I like to lower my shoulder. I just think I have good power and speed and I can block too."

As of now, Iowa State has offered him a scholarship and there are plenty more on the horizon for Gunn.

"I am looking at academics first and then playing time. I want to play. Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Notre Dame are some of the schools I am looking at. I am open and it is early."

Gunn would like to camp at Nebraska once again this summer. He and his teammate, Cortney Grixby, are considering attending a Nike Camp as well.
