Iowa State targeting Naadir Tharpe

At one point in his recruitment, Brewster Academy's Naadir Tharpe was committed to Providence. After de-committing a few months ago he has opened up his recruitment and one school that he is taking a serious look at is Iowa State.

"Iowa State is definitely a school that I am serious about," said Tharpe. "Along with Iowa State I also have offers from Seton Hall, Rutgers, Marquette, UNC Charlotte, and Boston College. I'm open to all schools right now."

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound point guard has been in contact with Iowa State associate head coach T.J. Otzelberger mostly and says the two have developed a solid relationship.

"Coach T.J. is real cool and I have really known him a while because he was here a lot when he was recruiting Melvin (Ejim)," said Tharpe. "They have a senior point guard so they are definitely a school that I'm looking at because I could come in and compete for playing time right away. I definitely want to go to a school where I can get on the court a lot as a freshman."

Naadir also likes the fact that if he did choose Iowa State that he would be rejoining his former teammate.

"Melvin and I are really close and we hung out a lot at Brewster," said Tharpe. "He's definitely helping their staff by trying to get me to Iowa State. I might take a visit to Iowa State this summer and if I can't then I'll likely go up in the fall."

So what does Iowa State like about Naadir's game?

"They have told me that they feel I show solid leadership skills for a point guard and they really like how I run the pick and roll on offense," he said.

Tharpe plays for the New England Playaz AAU team and he is gearing up for a very busy summer.

"Next up we will be in Indianapolis and then we have some local tournaments," he said. "Then we'll be in West Virginia, Las Vegas, and Phoenix late in July."
