ISU targeting Garrett

Iowa State has already received 2011 commitments from a wing and a point guard. The staff is definitely looking to add some depth up front and one player they are very high on is Sacramento (CA) High School's Robert Garrett.

"Iowa State saw me at the Pangos Tournament in Long Beach and they offered me a scholarship right after that," said Garrett. "I haven't talked to their coaches yet because they have mostly been talking to my (Play Hard Play Smart) AAU Coach Brian Hamilton."

The 6-foot-11, 235-pound center also has offers from San Diego State, USC, Santa Clara, Idaho, and TCU.

He told CSR that working on his game has been the key this summer.

"I like to play with my back to the basket and I really feel my offensive game and rebounding are coming along," said Garrett. "I still want to get better offensively and I'd like to improve my athleticism."

In talking to his AAU coach the chances of Garrett visiting Iowa State are pretty solid.

"It would definitely be a good place to visit and it would also be a good place to play college basketball," said Hamilton. "He'll likely take about two to three visits in the fall and then make his decision. His grades are good (3.0 GPA and 1500 SAT score) and so he's just looking to find the best place for him to go to school."
