Florida safety to visit Iowa State

The Iowa State coaching staff continues to scour the state of Florida for football talent. One player that they are targeting is Punta Gorda High School's Courtland Waters who is hoping to visit Ames in the near future.

"I'll be visiting Iowa State in September for a couple days," said Waters. "I haven't set up an exact date but Coach (Shane) Burnham and I are working on setting a specific date to come up for a game."

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound safety says that he is developing a very solid relationship with the Cyclone assistant coach.

"Coach Burnham's real cool and we seem to like the same stuff whenever we talk," said Waters. "He checks up on me and we communicate about once every other week."

Courtand has offers from Iowa State and Youngstown State. He is also hearing from Rutgers, TCU, and Western Kentucky.

"I'm going to wait to make a decision and right now I have no favorites," said Waters. "I am impressed with the Iowa State coaches because when you look at what the team did last year it shows that they are really improving as a team."

If Waters does choose Iowa State he might be asked to change his position.

"Coach Burnham told me that he likes me at safety or cornerback," said Waters. "He likes my speed and the way I attack the ball. I'm fine with playing cornerback if that is what they want."
