Coleman sets visit to Iowa State

Cyclone Sports Report talks with Hopkins (MN) High School star Joe Coleman about where his recruitment currently stands, his friendship with Royce White, and when he might be making a final decision.

"I'm currently have no leaders and I'm just kind of trying to take things step-by-step," said Coleman. "I have offers from Creighton, Colorado State, Iowa State, Minnesota, Santa Clara, and Seton Hall."

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard has already taken some visits and has another one coming up early next week.

"I have already taken unofficial visits to Minnesota, Santa Clara, and Colorado State," said Coleman. "This coming Monday I'll be heading down for another unofficial visit to Iowa State with my mom and my brother."

One player that Joe might see during his visit to Ames was actually a high school teammate of his for one year.

"I played with Royce (White) at Hopkins when I was a sophomore," said Coleman. "I've talked to him a little bit about Iowa State and he definitely told me that he thought I would like it down there."

Coleman averaged 25 points and 8 rebounds last season and says that Iowa State's recruitment of him has really picked up over the past few weeks.

"Coach Hoiberg was at the Peach Jam tournament and so he got to watch me play a lot and soon after is when I got my scholarship offer," he said. "I've gotten to talk with him some and he told me that he likes how I am able to get to the basket and that he really liked the fact that I play hard and that he thought I was a tough player."

Joe also liked what he heard from Coach Hoiberg in regards to the system that he will be running at Iowa State.

"I like that he wants to open it up on offense and that he wants to run an up-tempo style because I feel that fits my game," said Coleman. "He seems real nice and I feel he is looking to do the right thing for his players and really help them individually."

Joe has an uncle (Ben) and brother (Dan) who played for Minnesota so some fans might think that Joe will also follow suit but he told CSR that definitely is not the case.

"If I end up picking Minnesota it would be because I felt most comfortable there," he said. "I have talked to brother about the process and he told me that I have to go to a place where I can be happy for four years. He also said it should be a place that you will want to go back to years later and where you might want to live."

So when does Joe want to make his final decision?

"I'm not quite sure yet," he said. "I would like to make it before the summer ends but things could change so I'm just not completely sure yet."
