Nebraska has some strong wrestlers in their line-up, but they also have a lot of holes. The team is relatively young so I would expect in the next few years that they should be a tough team, however I expect Iowa to win over them handily this year.
125 : Coufal has not had a great season thus far. Nebraska forfeited this match against Penn State. If they forfeit against #2, will they against #1? McDonough will get the win here.
133 : This is another weight that head coach Manning has forfeited to teams. I highly doubt he'll be forfeiting two matches. Ramos will get the win here.
141 : Don't let the no-rank fool you, Kiley is a solid wrestler. He qualified for the NCAAs the last two years. I still expect Ballweg to win, but I don't expect it to be as easy as the first two weights.
149 : Kelly or Grothus? This will be a tough match. Sueflohn qualified for the NCAAs last year. Recently he pinned A.Alton in the 2nd period. Then he was pinned last week by Osterman of MI State. Really I could see this going either way, but if Kelly is injured and Grothus is still too roly-poly, this could go bad fast.
157 : Green finished 7th at last year's NCAAs. His two losses this year are to D.Alton (PSU),3-1 and Jedd Moore (VA),7-6. This should be a close match but I expect St. John's toughness to win out.
165 : Whoever Nebraska puts on the mat, I expect Moore to win. I'm expecting to see Austin Wilson who has been in the line-up more steadily. Neither Wilson nor Koehn have beaten any competition of note.
174 : Yet another test for Evans. 174 will be a beast at the Big10s this year. Kokesh's only loss this year came early from Storley of MN in sudden victory. He's beaten everyone else and has faced tough competition, Matt Brown (PSU), Jordan Blanton (IL), Dan Yates (MI), Nate Brown (Lehigh), Lee Munster (NW). I'm actually giving this match to Kokesh based on the season's history and the fact that his wins over all those ranked wrestlers were by 3 points or more.
184 : Ihnen was 8th last year and qualified the two previous years for the NCAAs. His losses this year have been to top-5 guys (Steinhaus, Sheptock, Ruth). I expect Nebraska to get the win here. Both Lofthouse and Gambrall will have their hands full.
197 : I expect to see Burak get this win. Kolb doesn't have any big wins. His best accomplishment is keeping matches close against some of the top-10 guys.
285 : Johnson has moved up from 197 to heavyweight. Nebraska's other heavyweight, Donny Longendyke, is a freshman. He started in the lineup at the beginning of the season before being replaced by Johnson mid-way. I see this as a Telford win.
Come early and watch the Combine Clash.
It involves middle school aged wrestlers from Iowa and Nebraska who will face off against each other in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It starts at 11am.
They're looking to make this an annual event with a travelling trophy, always to be held the day of the IA/NE dual meet.
