There's got to be some way to get a campaign going to flood the IOC with emails/communications about this. I'll gladly boycott any and all other aspects of the Olympic games if wrestling is dropped. Absolutely ridiculous.
Is there any more pure athletic competition than wrestling? Running is equal maybe but few others. And the Olympics is the true epitome of wrestling where that is not true for many sports. Think tennis, golf, cycling, football (soccer), and golf as examples where other titles are often as or more important than Olympic titles. How about dumping "sports" that involve high tech equipment, animals, or professionals?
On the bright side, finally something to unite Iran, Russia, and the US.
And finally, I have been polite about some of these other goofy "sports" recognizing that I am a fan of a niche sport myself. But this cuts it, no more being nice about rhythmic gymnastics, modern pentathalon, BMX cycling, synchronized swimming, biathlon, or curling amongst others. The gloves are off.
Like so many things- this is all about money and greed. The Olympics has become so commercialized and they want the most popular sports and that relates to how much they can sell their TV rights to the biggest bidder = billions of dollars every 2 years.
Yea, except the Modern Pentathalon was kept Pentathalon had exactly HALF the average viewers 12.5 million vs 23 million
Difference is that an IOC board member and son of former IOC president Jacques Rogge, pushed to keep the Modern Pentathalon...
Long story short, politics...

I also understand that they can't allow every sport in the Olympics, but why this one out one in BS? It's like they decided that they want to add something, so they HAVE to get rid of something. I like how Brands put it, how much does it take to setup a mat?
The leaders for Wrestling are going to need to really step up and get this figured out. If they can't be part of the 2020 Olympics, they should say Efff um, find a direct competitor network to NBC and broadcast a Wrestling World Championship at the same time as the Olympics... not sure how it would work out, but it would be a nice MIDDLE FINGER to the ioc.
As with all things now days...this is about MONEY! You can't fight it talking about tradition or Olympic Spirit. The only way you can fight back is with MONEY! I don't mean send contributions...I mean stop spending money on products promoted by the Olympic sponsors. Send them an letter, telling them of your intentions.
Now if we just had a listing of Olympic Sponsors....
