Byrd Cautions Fans from Making Assumptions

After Damiere Byrd watched South Carolina knock off then No. 1 Alabama in Columbia last weekend, recruiting analysts and fans felt like that sealed his decision. The top-rated 2011 WR spoke with HI's Josh Harvey Thursday night and said things are not a lock for the Gamecocks.

When Scout.com 4-star wide receiver Damiere Byrd set a date for his college announcement earlier in the week, many college football fans couldn't help but examine the timing. Byrd was fresh off a visit to South Carolina. During his visit, the Gamecocks knocked off No. 1 Alabama.

It has to be South Carolina right?

HawkeyeInsider.com caught up with the Timber Creek High School (NJ) star on Thursday night to talk about his upcoming announcement on Oct. 20.

HawkeyeInsider.com:"Most people assume that it's S.C. after they knocked off Bama this weekend...The atmosphere must have been wild.

Byrd: "Yeah, I figured fans would think that, but honestly I have been thinking about shutting it down for a a while now."

The wide receiver says he does have a clear favorite at this point, but will talk with his family one more time before next Wednesday's announcement.

"I'm excited to get it over with," said Byrd who will have his decision out of the way before Timber Creek starts their playoff run.

Byrd is reportedly deciding between Ole Miss, Iowa, South Carolina and Florida.

As a junior, he caught 38 passes for 605 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried the ball 78 times for 685 yards and eight more scores.

Byrd visited Iowa City two weekends ago when Iowa took on Penn State.
