Blythe's Redemption Game

It's what Williamsburg offensive lineman Austin Blythe has been focused on since midway through the season. Another chance to take on Solon, the Raiders only blemish of the regular season. The Iowa commitment will get that chance next Monday, as the two teams will face off in the 3rd round of the Iowa State Playoffs.

"The whole team is looking forward to it," said Blythe to HawkeyeInsider.com. "We've been talking about a rematch since we lost. We have been working hard to make sure we got to this point and were going to have to prepare really well this week."

In early October, the two teams met in Solon, with the Spartans taking the 22-7 win. Since then, both teams have perfect records and are No. 5 and No. 6 in the state respectively.

"They just played fundamentally sound and played with great technique," said Blythe looking back at that first game. "We just kind of played flat."

The winner on Monday night will advance to the Class 3A state semi-finals, the loser goes home. During Blythe's time at Williamsburg, the Raiders have never been able to even reach the quarterfinals.

"I'm not really focused on being finished yet, so I haven't really let it sink it in yet," said Blythe. "I'm looking to end my career going out on top."

Meanwhile Solon has experience on their side. They won last year's 2A state championship game, and know what it takes to get there.

Even with the high school playoffs in full force, Blythe has found some time to focus on his future team.

"I wasn't able to watch the game on Saturday, but I listened to it in the car. It sounded like the Hawks played lights out. It was a great game to listen to.

If your not busy on Monday night and live within a decent driving distance to Solon, check out this playoff game. You won't be disappointed.
