EXTRA POINTS -

-Senior Josh Koeppel started the second game of his college career on place of Gettis for a second week in a row.

-Don Shumpert traveled but did not see any action. He's been a steady member of the special teams since removing his redshirt at Michigan.

-Iowa employed several different personnel packages on defense to match up with the Wildcats' spread. The Hawkeyes installed a rarely seen dime package with DBS Greg Castillo and B.J. Lowery replacing LBs James Morris and Jeremiha Hunter. They also rotated Hunter and Troy Johnson at weakside LB in the second half before Tarpinian was hurt.

Iowa committed two big penalties on its first two drives than negated potential first downs. Markus Zusevics' hold put the kibosh on the opening drive and DJK's helped lead to a second consecutive three and out.

-James Morris led Iowa in tackles with 13, which included a sack. Micah Hyde added 12 stops for the Hawkeyes.

-Adam Robinson finished the day with 108 yards on 22 carries. He's now exceeded the century mark in six of the nine games he's played.

-The Hawkeyes were two of 14 on third-down opportunities.

-Iowa was penalized six times for 39 yards on Saturday after being whistled nine times for 65 yards last week at Indiana.

-DJK finished with five receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown.

QUOTABLE:

Kirk Ferentz on defense wearing down - "The way (Northwestern) plays, it's tough. A lot of short passes and (Dan Persa) is a tremendous player. He's very dangerous and will hurt you in a lot of different ways. There were a lot of plays with sideline-to-sideline type action and that's hard on everybody. It's hard to chase a quarterback around like that."

Ferentz on playing Northwestern the last few years - "If you look at the last two games going backwards, we turned it over and they didn't. Today, they just outplayed us. Two 7-3 teams today and they were the better team today, that's for sure."
