2011 Texas RB Talks Iowa Visit

Texas Running Back Tra Carson officially visited Iowa this weekend. The Class of 2011 product talked about the trip and what's next with Hawkeye Insider.

Shonn Greene impacted Iowa greatly during his time at the school. The New York Jets running back has continued to help the Hawkeyes.

"(The Iowa coaches) really talked a lot about how much I reminded them of Shonn Greene," Tra Carson said about his official visit to the school this weekend. "I guess I never realized it. They showed me some film and I definitely think that's how I run; I'm that kind of back."

The Class of 2011 running back from Texarkana, Texas felt good about the vibe he received on the visit.

"I really like that it's a college town," the 6-foot-1, 218-pound Carson said. "I really liked how well the fans followed the basketball team even though they lost. It just seemed like a very supportive community."

Scout.com ranks Carson has the 79th best running back in the country for 2011. The service lists him as a three-star recruit on a five-star scale.

Carson is scheduled to officially visit Oregon next weekend. He's then expected to takes trips to Arkansas and Kansas.

"I'm really not sure when I'm going to decide," the Liberty-Eylau High product said. "When I feel like I've seen what I need to see, that will probably be the time."

Carson hails from the same high school that produced Oregon running back LaMichael James, who this week won the Doak Walker award as the nation's top player at his position.

"That will have no impact on my decision," Carson said.

Carson said that the Iowa staff stressed Head Coach Kirk Ferentz's connections to the NFL. The Hawkeye recruiters also focused on how well he would fit into their system.

"The visit was real cool," Carson said. "I really liked my hosts (Brad Rogers, Micah Hyde). They were a lot of fun."
