Profile 2004 - James Bryant (LB)

James Bryant will be one of the top defensive prospects from Big 10 country. Bryant, 6-3 and 240 pounds, plays linebacker for Reading High School in Pennsylvania. Last season, as a junior, he recorded 132 tackles, eight sacks, forced 10 fumbles and recovered 6 fumbles.

"I am a sideline to sideline linebacker," Bryant said. "I try and make them (the offense) cough up that ball. I play the pass and the run well. I can cover just about any running back or receiver."

According to Bryant, he has scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, LSU, Boston College and West Virginia. For now, he is set on six schools but with Signing Day months away and much could change.

"I like Pittsburgh, Miami, Maryland, Oregon, Iowa and Virginia Tech right now. I want to take my visits and see what is out there. I also want to play right away as a true freshman. I am interested the defense but scheme doesn't really matter because I think I can play in most of them."

Bryant's older brother, Sam, will be a red-shirt sophomore next season for Pittsburgh. Will that play a factor in his ultimate decision?

"I will do what's best for me. Sam and I are close and he has really helped me become the player that I am today because we have been pretty competitive. But he told me not to worry about what happens and do what I have to do."

Bryant plans on attending two Nike Camps (Penn State and Virginia Tech). He would also like to camp this summer at Pittsburgh and Ohio State. He also plays basketball and is a track and field (shot put) standout.
