Hawks Win, Lose, Tie

Iowa sports took center stage on Sunday with three games on national television. The women's basketball team won, the men's team lost and the wrestling team tied.

Iowa won, lost and tied in its three nationally televised sporing events on Sunday.

The Hawkeye women's basketball team cruised past Indiana, 71-51, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Jaime Printy paced the winners with 18 points while teammate Kachine Alexander filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and four assists.

Iowa improved to 15-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes are off until they head to Columbus for a showdown with Ohio State on Jan. 24.

The Iowa grapplers were next up on the Sunday Hawkeye docket. The visitors carried a 69-match winning streak in duals to Oklahoma State. It ended in a 15-15 tie.

The Cowboys were favored, but the young Iowa team showed well. Matt McDonough, Mark Ballweg, Derek St. John, Ethen Lofthouse and Blake Rasing scored victories for the 10th-ranked Hawkeyes.

The Iowa men's basketball team finished up the day with hard-fought, 69-59 loss at No. 25 Minnesota. The Hawkeyes gave a much better account of themselves after embarrassing losses to Purdue and Northwestern.

Melshahn Basabe scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Iowa (7-10, 0-5). Eric May broke out of funk with 16 points after scoring a total of three in his last two games.

Iowa returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to top-ranked Ohio State.
