"Due to the weather, I wasn't able to make it. I was disappointed. I was hoping that I was going to get an offer on the spot from them said," said Pipkins, the Scout.com 3-star DT in the Class of 2012. "I already have offers from Missouri and Kansas State. An Iowa one would have been nice.
"They are a great school and have a great tradition. Every year they seem to have some level of success. Some years better than others, but they are always in a bowl game. The coaching staff looks like they know what they are doing with their athletes. It's a great program and one of the top in the Big Ten right now."
At 6-foot-4, 320 pounds, fresh off a great showing at the Army Combine in San Antonio, it's no wonder Iowa has pegged the junior as a recruit. Pipkins was placed in a group representing the top five big men at the Army Combine and received individual instruction from Ndamukong Suh.
A player focused on academics, Pipkins will be looking for a program that features a strong business administration degree on the academic side.
"I also want a school where I can split time early and see some playing time right away. But, the most important thing is that I get a good education," said the DT. "I also want to play across the defensive line. I'm more athletic than just a nose guard. I want to show the coaching staff that I play for that as well."
So is he planning an Iowa visit in the future?
"I called them and told them that I was hoping to make it, but couldn't. I told them that I was hoping to come to a game in the future," said Pipkins. "I'm planning on going to a spring practice and spending a couple days there, staying overnight. I want to be able to see what is going on at Iowa."
