Linn Mar QB/LB Student Of The Game

After standing out on both sides of the ball for Linn Mar in 2010, junior Mark Atwater is ready to for the camp circuit in hopes to earn his first offer. Who is he already hearing from? has the answers inside.

Mark Atwater Profile

School: Linn Mar

"6-foot-1, 195 pounds, not sure to be completely honest."

High school position
"I play quarterback and linebacker."

What position are schools looking at you for the next level?
"They're a few people talking about strong safety, but I think that is just speculation. I'm hoping for the defensive side, maybe linebacker."

Do you know your stats from last season?
"I threw for about 1600 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions. I also ran for seven touchdowns and about 700 yards."

What about your defensive stats?
"I had 82 tackles, two sacks, nine tackles for loss, and one interception."

What schools are currently recruiting you?
"I'm getting stuff from Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. Iowa State invited me to their junior day this next upcoming Saturday."

As an Iowa boy, what are you? A Hawk or a Cyclone?
"I'm a Hawkeye."

So is Iowa leading the way for your services right now or are they standing out?
"I would say I'm a tad bias on them, just because they were my favorite team growing up. But, no one is going to have an advantage over one another when it comes to schools. It would be really cool to play there, but I don't think they would probably have an advantage over anyone else, for example Iowa State."

What are you looking for in a school?
"I want a school with a winning tradition; somewhere I know we can win, hopefully contending for a conference title."

Do you feel anyone is getting close to offering?
"Not really. I have a pretty big summer planned when it comes to the camp circuit. I have never really done the whole camp thing, so if I can prove myself a little bit then maybe some offers will come."

How would you describe yourself as a player?
"I'm probably not the fastest, the biggest, but my dad is actually the defensive coordinator at Coe College. I have been around football for a long time. I separate myself in the mental aspects of the game. I'm breaking down film, I'm looking at schemes and bigger parts of the game. I think that is where parts of my play-making ability comes from. I'm always a step a head."

Did you go to any games this fall?
"I was only able to go to two Iowa State games. I liked what I saw there, it was a good time for me. They are on the upswing. Coach Rhodes is definitely a guy that can walk into a room and grab everyone's attention. He is powerful guy to listen to. He's passion about what he does. I enjoyed it."

I'm going to put a dream scenario on the table for you. Iowa and Iowa State both offer. Where you going?
"I would have to say probably Iowa."
